Scheme information

Porthtowan is a village comprising 739 households in the Parish of St. Agnes on the North Coast of Cornwall. It is basically a steep sided valley with a side valley on one side. At one end there is a large surfing beach flanked by high cliffs perforated by old mine shafts and adits. There are houses at the bottom and then because of the mining history new building has concentrated on top,.and thence the land becomes farmland largely given over to arable or horses. There seems to be over 44% of the population over 60 ,some second homes, B&B accommodation increases dramatically June -September,.Working home owners work mainly in Truro or Redruth some from home. There is a shortage of affordable houses because of the tourist attraction.
