Link Road Neighbourhood Watch

Scheme information

Mixed residential. Victorian terraces and semi-detached. Multi-racial community with a large number of HMO's. A well-established scheme set up in 1999. Set up to counter a massive crime wave which included street prostitution, muggings and burglaries. Through tireless effort involving the church, the police, the city council and some of the landlords we have seen the area transformed. We are now known as an "eco-neighbourhood" following huge investment in solar technology. There is still a problem with large tenant agencies buying up the properties and turning them into student accommodation or hostels--which creates instability and adds to the transitory nature of the population. Some families have recently moved in to the area, however, as it is seen to be so improved. We are within walking distance of Birmingham City Centre and have green open spaces nearby.
