Our Winner: Umar
Umar’s nomination:
I would like to nominate Umar - a remarkable young man who has only just turned 16, however from a young age has shown maturity and leadership skills beyond his years. Umar is very active, consistent, and proactive in his involvement in making our local community a safer, cleaner, and more united place.
He has worked closely alongside PCSOs to address homelessness in our area, showing compassion while also ensuring that residents felt supported and safe. He has also taken initiative in practical community improvement projects, including tree felling and trimming, which have helped maintain the area’s appearance and safety.
One of his greatest strengths is his connection with local residents. He actively engages with people across the neighbourhood to understand their concerns and to identify areas needing attention. He’s also taken this feedback forward by working in collaboration with both City and County Councillors on a variety of community issues. His ability to bridge communication between the public and officials has had a positive, lasting impact.
Umar's involvement doesn’t stop there. He’s extended his support to local places of worship, including offering assistance at the local Mosque and others across the city. His willingness to serve diverse communities demonstrates his inclusive and community-first mindset.
In addition, he has dedicated significant time to reporting fly-tipping and illegal dumping around the area. His vigilance and follow-through have contributed to cleaner streets and increased community pride.
Though young, he consistently upholds the core values of Neighbourhood Watch safety, community spirit, and action. He is a role model not only to peers his age but also to adults in the community. I believe he embodies what this award stands for and deserves recognition for his unwavering dedication.
