A group of volunteers are working hard in Driffield to provide vulnerable and isolated residents with help. Headed up by Rhian Livingstone, the Group now has over 140 volunteers providing help with essential shopping, dog walking and collection of urgent prescriptions.
Supported by Driffield Town Council the ‘Helping Driffield COVID-19’ community support group are well organised with a new dedicated website, ID cards for every volunteer, a special telephone number which diverts to volunteers mobiles and daily video updates on their Facebook page.
The main challenges result from the volume of help requests - up to 100 per day. This has taken great determination and organisation. Funding has also been a challenge, but thanks to Driffield Town Council and the support of a local benefactor and donations from the public via a crowd funding page, funds have been raised to buy essential equipment (including PPE, laptops, flyers, website, newspaper adverts and stationary) plus, reimburse volunteers for expenses where necessary.
