Scheme information

Dorset Police has joined forces with partner agencies to reduce anti-social behaviour, theft and fire damage to our precious heathland. Operation Heathland will see a combination of proactive policing and public education to protect the county’s heathland areas, which are threatened each year by fire and other damage caused by accident, recklessness and arson. The Force is working alongside the Urban Heaths Partnership to remind members of the public to be alert and proactive in reporting any suspicious behaviour or fires on the heathland.

Adrian Thompson
I am the Sergeant for the Poole West Safer Neighbourhood Team covering Canford Heath, Creekmoor, Waterloo, Broadstone and Merley. I also have responsibility for the management and tasking of Operation Heathland - a force wide commitment to reduce Anti-Social Behaviour and damage to heathland across Dorset. I have started this scheme to further our intelligence gathering opportunities on the heathlands to further reduce and tackle ASB and criminal behaviour. We have an inaugural training event on 14th June 2014 at Hamworthy FireStation in conjunction with DFRS to explain more about the group and the wider arching 'Dorset Open Spaces Group'
