An entrepreneur who works with Neighbourhood Watch to help protect people’s homes from burglary will feature on Sunday’s Dragons’ Den programme on BBC2.
Craig Knott who invented the Patlock after an attempted break-in at his own home filmed the episode in April last year. Viewers will see on Sunday how Craig got on after asking for the Dragons’ support.
Although we can’t reveal the outcome of Craig’s time in the Den until after the show airs Craig describes the experience – where entrepreneurs pitch for financial support from five self-made business tycoons – as “the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done”.
Neighbourhood Watch joined forces with Craig after he impressed the charity with the unique new product that aims to drastically cut the number of homes broken into each year.
Describing his experience on the hit show Craig said: “I’m pretty philosophical about the whole thing, but it was really nerve-wracking – just like you see on TV. To be honest I’ve had a few sleepless nights since filming remembering what it was like facing the Dragons.”
The police accredited “Secured By Design” Patlock is an easy-to-use French door security lock that fits easily over the handles of Conservatory and French doors.

Designed to deter and stop would-be intruders, the Patlock provides extra security and instant peace of mind for the homeowner.
Lynn Farrar, chair of Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network, said: “We are delighted to be working with Patlock to protect more homes from burglars who often use conservatory or French doors to get into people’s homes.
“It’s a great product and Neighbourhood Watch benefits from a contribution from Patlock which will help our members up and down the country continue to do the work they do to keep their communities safe.”
Craig, who is from Shipley, West Yorkshire, thought of the idea after burglars tried to break-into his Bradford home through the patio doors.
“The police officer who investigated the attempted break-in explained how easy it was for burglars to get in by snapping the euro cylinder locks on doors,” said Craig.
“There was nothing on the market to counter this, so I had the idea of a device to hold the handles secure, therefore retaining the locked position of all the catches and shoot bolts in the doors.”
Craig has spent the past few years designing, patenting and manufacturing the finished Patlock product which was launched in 2013 and a patent granted in 2015.
Patlock now sells across the whole of the UK and Ireland and has received overseas orders from Europe, New Zealand, the United States and Japan.
