Police Scotland - Cowal South Rural Watch

Scheme information

Rural Watch encompasses farms, rural businesses, domestic and holiday properties within the Cowal policing area. The Scheme is being coordinated by Police Scotland and will continue to be rolled out across Argyll. Its anticipated that an official re launch of this local Rural Watch will take place in September 2015. One of the main aims of the scheme is to promote continued communication between villagers and the Police, share intelligence, heighten awareness of vulnerabilities and work together to prevent crime. Police Scotland and the Forestry Commission will carry out patrols including joint operations to reassure the community, act as a deterrent and ultimately reduce crime in the area. The email system within the watch will be used to pass information on crime to members in that specific area. In turn members will be able to contact the Coordinator by email. Weatherproof signage will be posted at strategic points throughout the Watch area to raise awareness amongst visitors that despite being a rural area, its managed, inhabited, Policed and cared for. This watch is supported by Neighbourhood Watch Scotland and many home insurance companies will offer a discount to members of the Rural Watch. It only takes a few minutes to sign up, its FREE and shows you care for your community.

I am a serving Police Constable with Police Scotland stationed at Dunoon police office having transferred from Cumbria police where co-ordinated multiple watch schemes. I am excited to be involved in this scheme coordinated by Police Scotland and the local communities. I would encourage rural farms, businesses, residents and visitors in the Dunoon, Innellan, Toward and Sandbank areas to take the time to go online and join up. Through this website we will be able to send you information and keep you up to date with current issues pertinent to our area. I look forward to speaking to you soon. PC Gareth Sims L054
