Our achievements

When we talk about our achievements, we’re talking about the achievements of people like you. Our groups’ successes show what can be accomplished when ordinary people work together.

Here are some of the things our groups have done. (As you’ll see, it goes well beyond just preventing crime.)

Harborough Be Safe, Leicestershire

Formed to address a serious problem with distraction burglaries, the group tries to see victims on the day they are referred, providing emotional as well as practical support to people who are often vulnerable and isolated. A local locksmith also volunteers his time.

Nearly 2,000 homes have been secured and there has been a year-on-year reduction in distraction burglaries. In 2009, the scheme was nominated as one of the top three groups caring for victims in the national Inside Justice Awards.

Eaglesfield Park Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, London

Set up in 2006, the scheme galvanised local people to tackle the problem of youth anti-social behaviour. While operating a zero tolerance policy, it also provided young people with alternative activities and engaged them in environmental cleanups.

The immediate problem has been stopped, but the group remains vigorous in tackling other issues. Residents are glad of the sense that they no longer face problems alone.

Streetly Community And Neighbourhood Watch/Streetly Youth4em, Walsall

As well as offering safety advice to over 5,000 houses, this group has been key in setting up Youth4em. It holds barbecues for young people, getting them involved in further activities and helping steer them away from anti-social behaviour. Young forum members have been encouraged to join the Prince’s Trust, with one receiving a Young People’s Award. The forum has been recognised by the Association of Chief Police Officers as a ‘best practice tool for the community’.
